Bruce Springsteen has officially released “Addicted to Romance,” the original song that he made for writer and director Rebecca Miller’s new romantic comedy She Came to Me. He collaborated with Bryce Dessner of the National on the track. Listen to the new song below.
Along with singing and writing the lyrics for “Addicted to Romance,” Springsteen played piano, keyboards, and organ on the song. It also features Springsteen’s wife and bandmate, Patti Scialfa, on vocals, Ron Aniello on keyboards, Benjamin Lanz on trombone, and Kyle Resnick on trumpet. Dessner orchestrated the track and co-produced it with Ron Aniello.
“Working with Rebecca Miller on her new film She Came to Me has been one of the best and most rewarding experiences of my creative life,” Bryce Dessner said in a statement. “The film, which centers around a composer, features two big on-screen opera scenes that I composed specifically for the film, as well as a score that features pianist Katia Labèque and full orchestra conducted by my friend André de Ridder.”
Dessner continued: “When Rebecca asked me about working on a song for the end credits I immediately thought (perhaps unrealistically!) that it would be incredible to ask Bruce Springsteen to write a song. Rebecca agreed, and we sent the film to Bruce, and, to our surprise and delight, he responded very positively. Shortly after, Bruce sent us a demo of the song he wrote inspired by the film, ‘Addicted to Romance,’ which felt like an instant classic the minute we heard it. The song also features Bruce’s wife, Patti Scialfi, and their voices blend together for the perfect ending to the movie. As a lifelong Bruce fan, along with my bandmates, he is one of our biggest influences, it was a dream to work on this song with Bruce, and he was incredibly generous and open to my ideas and contributions.”
Dessner’s She Came to Me soundtrack is out now, and the film gets a wide release in the United States on Friday, October 6. The movie stars Peter Dinklage, Marisa Tomei, Joanna Kulig, Brian d’Arcy James, and Anne Hathaway.
The She Came to Me soundtrack follows the National’s two 2023 albums—First Two Pages of Frankenstein and Laugh Track—and Bruce Springsteen’s 2022 collection Only the Strong Survive.
